Color Check-In Circle

How to Use the Activity

Invite children to choose a color that matches how they are feeling that day. Teachers can use colored cards, popsicle sticks, paper circles, or a feelings chart.

Examples:

  • Yellow = happy/excited

  • Blue = calm/tired

  • Red = frustrated/upset

  • Green = peaceful

  • Purple = nervous/shy

Allow children to briefly share why they chose their color if they feel comfortable.

Why This Matters

Young children are still learning how to recognize and express emotions. Activities like this help children build emotional vocabulary, self-awareness, and communication skills while creating a classroom environment where feelings are acknowledged safely and respectfully.

Closing Reflection

“All feelings are okay. What matters is learning how to understand and express them kindly.”
