The Doorway Pause

How to Use the Activity

Before entering your classroom in the morning, pause at the doorway for a few seconds.

Choose one word that represents how you want to show up that day:

• Patient
• Flexible
• Present
• Playful
• Encouraging
• Calm

Choose whatever word reflects what you need that day. Then enter the classroom carrying that intention with you.

Why This Matters

Teachers often walk into the classroom already thinking about schedules, responsibilities, unfinished work, and what needs to happen next. A brief doorway pause creates an intentional transition and gives educators an opportunity to choose how they want to approach the day before the demands of the classroom begin.

Closing Reflection

“I may not control everything that enters this room, but I can choose how I enter it.”
